Your question: Are they talking about present style in USA? Our answer: NO.
That has never been of interest to me (Elwanda).
This morning, October 11th I was quite excited when I saw Mt. Kenya again with snow on top! It has been hidden behind the clouds for many months. Even that is not the NEW LOOK to which I am referring.
Many years ago, Dave and I were living in another area in Kenya, to re-place a missionary couple on furlough. I asked Jeannie, a missionary who lived there, to give me a chorus about the Word of God.
This is what she taught me:
We need a NEW LOOK at the Old Book; we need a NEW LOOK at God's Word.
We need to search the Scriptures every day, hide God's Word in our heart.
We need a NEW LOOK at the Old Book; we need a NEW LOOK AT GOD'S WORD.
That chorus comes to my mind so often because I continue finding facts that had been sown in my heart but not firmly planted.
Presently, my co-teacher Fredrick and I are teaching the course APOLOGETICS to Seniors and Juniors on Wednesdays and Fridays. NEW LOOK? Absolutely! I have to study. Kenyans are very intelligent. As we have students from several tribal language backgrounds, we labor to understand the accent of each one. Even with hearing aids, I often resort to checking with Deacon Fredrick to be sure that I know what had been said. That is not a complaint but just a statement of fact.
During this month of October my co-teacher will reach his 27th birthday. Early in last July had my 89th birthday. Is there an age-gap? Not in Bible School. He knows more than I have learned or forgotten. I praise the Lord for providing what we need when we let HIM do it.
My Grandfather's birthday was October 22nd. In his honor/ memory there is an October Madison Reunion. This year, it was Oct. 9th at our old home church but new building we understand. Steve, our firstborn with Martha and their 3-1/2 year old Sophia attended. So did Sandy and her husband Terry Washer. They had gone to USA for the wedding of Joy, their lastborn, to Brian Collins. They stayed for medical reasons and to visit supporting churches. Lord willing, they will be back and live just a hop, skip, and jump up the road from us. Dave and I will be so glad to have them nearby. We cannot fail to thank God for the ones here in Karatina who filled the gap.
Our four children (1) Stephen (2) Paul (3) Barbie (4) Sandy are a blessing to us. I often think of how much they have taught me - much more than I taught them. When Dave and I married in 1948, many people wondered why he chose me. One of the young hopeful girls gathered her attractive girl friends who were students where Dave had once been and asked me (and I quote) "WHY ON EARTH DID DAVID FIELDS MARRY YOU?" Then she added some false and ugly implications. It was not a secret that I am more than five years older than he. Because I was older than the average American girl and unmarried, friends tried to help me "get some man to marry me!" They seemed to assume that nobody really wanted to marry me and sorry for me. God placed me as the second daughter of our parents. I clearly understood the importance of having the right man as my husband. One night I just knew that I had to know for sure before the next morning, the one whom the Lord had chosen to marry me. He made it very clear that it was David Lee Fields. Yes, he was and is the God-chosen one for me and I am thankful.
You who pray for us and those who send voluntary financial support is something for which Dave and I praise the Lord and thank you. May God bless you. Proverbs 3:5, 6; Romans 8:28-29.
